• Dr. James McKiernan of Kalispell has received a proficiency rating in the Activator Methods chiropractic technique for 2010. The designation places McKiernan in an elite class of chiropractic physicians who are expertly trained in the world’s No. 1 instrument technique. He graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1978.

• Kim Saverud has joined the Red Lion Hotel Kalispell as catering sales manager. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management. After graduation she worked for Hyatt Hotels in Scottsdale and La Jolla, Calif. before joining her family in Kalispell. Saverud will focus on corporate meetings, weddings and other special events.

• Michelle Weltz of Marion has been named the No. 8 Watkins manager for the U.S. and Canada by Watkins Inc. She has been an award-winning Watkins business development professional since 2007.

• Mike Rawls has started Environmental Design Services in the Flathead Valley. As owner-operator of the new business, he specializes in sustainable landscape consultation, design and construction, sustainable site planning, rain-water recycling, green roofs, locally sourced rock work, excavation  and landscaping/property maintenance. • Steve Nash, who has been working temporary assignments for Kalispell Express Employment Professionals since 2008, was named runner-up for the American Staffing Association’s National Staffing Employee of the Year contest. He also worked for Express in the mid-1990s on temporary assignments.

• Donna Nelson has been named interim branch director at Frontier Hospice. She also continues to serve her patients as a case manager with more than 20 years nursing experience and advanced practice.

• Marilyn Olson is the new community educator at Frontier Hospice.  Frontier Hospice’s community outreach program provides information to local organizations and civic groups on topics such as understanding grief, coping with the stress of being a caregiver, creating a living will and serving as a Frontier Hospice volunteer.

• Amy Barnes, MSW, has joined Frontier Hospice as a social worker with more than 15 years experience in working with hospice. She will assess the needs of patients and families and make recommendations based on the larger picture of their medical, emotional, social, and financial needs and resources.

• Jennifer Arterbury has started Kalispell Marketing Labs, offering business image and branding with design and commercial photography, business development, customer experience, referral programs, marketing consulting and buying. She has 10 years of advertising experience and operated her own advertising agency for two years. During the past three years in Kalispell, Arterbury has operated a photography business. • Kyle Bitney is a new staff pharmacist at HealthCare Plus Pharmacy in Polson. He received his degree as a Doctor of Pharmacy in 2010 from the University of Montana School of Pharmacy.

• Jim and Allyson Kuechmann have opened Montana Leather Creations & Smoothie Shoppe at 415 Main St. in Kalispell, just south of Wheat Montana. They offer 100 percent natural fruit and veggie smoothies, fruit and veggie leather (like Fruit Roll-ups), and hand-tooled leather items such as belts, wallets, etc. Custom leather tooling also is available. Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Handmade items from other local artisans also are for sale.

• Glacier Sotheby’s International Realty has five new agents. • Jane Lopp of Jane Lopp and Associates and a Chartered Financial Consultant has been re-elected secretary/treasurer of the Montana Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, a statutory entity with 841 member insurance
companies created by the Montana Legislature in 1974. Lopp has represented Prudential on the board of directors for 17 years. She is a graduate of the University of Montana.  

• Karen Thomas, co-owner of Realty Executives of Whitefish & The Glacier, is now the supervisor broker of the business. She moved to the Flathead Valley from Scottsdale, Ariz. in 2002 where she co-owned and operated a specialty baker/catering business and Arizona Bridal Fashion Affaire Magazine and Trade Shows.   

• Deb DeMuth has been hired as family resource manager at The Nurturing Center in Kalispell. In this new position, she will provide program support and coordination in the areas of family resources, parent education, supervised visitation and mentoring. DeMuth also will oversee the Gemini mentoring program, Safe Havens Supervised Visitation and Safe Exchange Services, as well as various parenting programs such as Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and ParentShare. She brings more than 16 years of nonprofit programming from across the country to this new role.
